" We Gotta Have Faith"

It was 2:00 am and I was ready to sleep. I wasn�t sleepy yet so I logged on my pc and watched ABS CBN'S DEAL OR NO DEAL.. I was about to change the channel when I noticed Kris Aquino holding her pair of heels with her hands. I heard her say "..di na kaya ng paa ko.. i�m so stressed with this.." or something to that effect. That was enough to make me glued to that program. The player was a Muslim and was actually given an offer of more than 800,000 pesos. The amounts left were P1, P250,000 and P2,000,000.

"Deal? Or no deal?", Kris asked the contestant. What happened after that was something I would take with me the rest of my life. Before giving his decision, he made a little speech. He said that since he got the call from the show�s staff a month ago about his participation, he�s been praying to Allah that this opportunity be the answer to his prayers for financial blessings. At that moment, he believed with all his heart that Allah will give him his heart�s desire. "NO DEAL!", he shouted. His decision elicited different reactions from the audience, most notable was the reaction given by one of the guys seated with his support group. He was probabaly a brother. He seemed scared and dissappointed with the decision. P800,000 is a lot of money. And if he chooses the wrong briefcase, that will be gone in a sec. The contestant chose briefcase # 9. And viola! It was the P1 briefcase! The studio went into a frenzy as everybody cheered on. The offer was increased to P999,999 - a significant number to the Muslims since the Koran contains 99 names of Allah. A lot of people were screaming for the contestant to take the offer. But he remained steadfast in his faith that God will give him what he asked for. "Paninindigan koang sinabi ko. I beleive Allah will answer my prayers tonight. No Deal!", he shouted for the last time. The tension was high. I was not even there but I could not help feeling tensed too. At that moment, a thought entered my mind. What if the briefcase he chose did not contain the P2,000,000? He will end up being the laughing stock of everyone. And he is dragging God�s reputation with it. I am pretty sure there are a lot of cynics out there about God�s presence in our lives. A lot of people pray to him, yes. But a lot do not really buy the idea of Him having a direct Hand in fulfilling our dreams. I was actually scared at that point� scared that the contestant�s faith in his Allah will only prove a point to those that do not really believe in God and His divine interventions in our lives.

I fixed my gaze on the briefcase that was about to be opened. Half-scared, half-excited. The studio errupted with screams as people saw what the briefcase contained. I, who was on my bed watching, celebrated with them, as I witnessed one guy�s dream come true. He won P2,000,000. And I, along with everybody else watching that night, won an even greater price. I just witnessed a display of pure faith that made a difference in life.

Lately, I have been having doubts about something I�ve asked God to grant. I used to believe in my prayer so much. But then, things began happening that made my faith waver. Slowly, I began to entertain thoughts about the IMpossibility of what I am asking. I began to think twice about it. But what I witnessed in that tv show made me feel ashamed of myself. I was not even there yet, but I was already not sure of what I beleived in.

In this life, we only have God and His infinite power and love to get us to where we want to go. No matter how bleak the possibilities are, I believe God will get me to where my heart desires.

As what George Michael is singing.. "coz i gotta have faith, faith, faith!"

we have different faith. i believe Allah guide him. it's a miracle!
