KOREAN Alphabet Global Initiative Team led by President, Rev. Ham Eun Hye, Mr Sim Jae Yool are in Davao City with Daedeok University students and their Director, Dr. Park Dong Kyu and Konyang University students with their Director Dr. Ra Yoon Dho. The Hanlim and Daejon University students held a dialogue with Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio at People’s Park last Monday, July 12, 2010. The visit is scheduled from July 05 – 19.
This is the third time for this group to come and teach Korean alphabet for the Badjao Tribe so that they can read and write in the Badjao dialect through the Korean Alphabet. They also learn to translate the Gospel of St. John for the Badjao ethnic tribe.
Because the Korean Alphabet is considered one of the most scientific, systematic and easy to learn languages in the world, it is now being taught to the Tiruray, Bagobo Tagabawa, Manobo Ubo, Matigsalog, Diangan and T’boli Tribes at Camp Alano from July 12-16.
Their vision is to teach the Korean Alphabet to 700 million illiterate people of the world, so that they can learn their own language through the Korean Alphabet, thereby reducing illiteracy.
During the dialogue with Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio, the group delivered the letter of the Daejeon City Mayor from Korea. They plan to develop a sisterhood city relationship with Davao City and invite one another for mutual understanding. A meeting with Jason Magnaye, Director of the City Tourism & Investment Office is being set to pave the way for more Koreans to visit and invest in Davao City. Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio also invited the group to help in the development of education, agricultural technology and tourism in Davao City.
Korean Missionaries Rev. David Sang, Rev. Samson Kim and Pastor Rev. Jun Macahig coordinated this program for Davao City and Mindanao’s Indigenous People. The General Secretary of KAGI, Mr. Sim Jael Yool teaches Korean Alphabet for the delegates of the six ethnic tribes.

A minority population in Indonesia officially adopted Hangul, the Korean written alphabet, to transcribe their spoken language of Cia-Cia. It is the first time that foreigners have adopted Hangul as their official writing system.
According to the Hunminjeongeum Research Institute, the Cia-Cia live in Bau-Bau, the main city on Buton Island located in the Sulawesi province of Indonesia. The city began distributing textbooks written in Hangul on July 22 to 400 elementary students in the Sorawolio district where many Cia-Cia people live.
The 60 thousand member Cia-Cia tribe has been on the verge of a crisis regarding the disappearance of their language. They do not have a writing system to complement their spoken language. Members of the Hunminjeongeum Research Institute persuaded them to adopt Hangul, and established a memorandum of understanding with city officials to use Hangul on July 2008.
The Hunminjeongeum Research Institute invited two persons from the Cia-Cia tribe to Seoul to create a textbook written in Hangul. The textbook includes traditional Cia-Cia and Korean stories.

It looks like this attempt by a Korean woman to export the Korean alphabet known as Hangul to other cultures without written alphabets is getting a less then welcoming reception by the Indonesian government:
Now, one South Korean woman, Lee Ki-nam, is determined to wring more recognition from the world with an unusual export: the Korean alphabet. Ms. Lee is using a fortune she made in real estate to try to take the alphabet to places where native peoples lack indigenous written systems to record their languages.
Her project had its first success — and generated headlines — in July, when children from an Indonesian tribe began learning the Korean alphabet, called Hangul. (…………..)
Still, the country’s linguistic ambitions have already raised some concerns, not long after some Muslim countries complained about South Korea’s zeal in trying to spread Christianity.
In Indonesia, where the government is encouraging its 240 million people to learn a “language of unity,” Bahasa Indonesia, for effective communication among a vast array of ethnic groups, Ms. Lee’s project raises delicate issues.
“If this is a kind of hobby, that’s fine,” Nicholas T. Dammen, the Indonesian ambassador to South Korea, said recently, referring to the decision by the Cia-Cia ethnic minority to adopt Hangul. “But they don’t need to import the Hangul characters. They can always write their local languages in the Roman characters” (………)
Although Indonesia’s government has not interfered in the Hangul project, Mr. Dammen said he feared that Baubau’s other tribes might become jealous of the “special treatment” the Koreans were giving the Cia-Cia.

siyempre hindi ako agree jan dahil bawat bansa may kanya kanyang lenggwahe...walng masama kung mag aral kahit sino sa atin ng lenggwahe ng ibang nation pero para palitan sarili nating lenggwahe ay mali yata yun...da best pa rin ang lenggwahe ng pinoy kaya dapat ipagmalaki at pagyamanin..

aNG TANONG?? Payag ba kayo na iadopt ito ng ating mga katutubong pilipino at himasukan ang kanilang kultura at pagpalit ng mga alpabetong katutubo gaya ng ginagamit ng mga mangyan at baybayin/alibata script sa palawan??

Because the Korean Alphabet is considered one of the most scientific, systematic and easy to learn languages in the world, it is now being taught to the Tiruray, Bagobo Tagabawa, Manobo Ubo, Matigsalog, Diangan and T’boli Tribes at Camp Alano from July 12-16.
Their vision is to teach the Korean Alphabet to 700 million illiterate people of the world, so that they can learn their own language through the Korean Alphabet, thereby reducing illiteracy.
During the dialogue with Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio, the group delivered the letter of the Daejeon City Mayor from Korea. They plan to develop a sisterhood city relationship with Davao City and invite one another for mutual understanding. A meeting with Jason Magnaye, Director of the City Tourism & Investment Office is being set to pave the way for more Koreans to visit and invest in Davao City. Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio also invited the group to help in the development of education, agricultural technology and tourism in Davao City.
Korean Missionaries Rev. David Sang, Rev. Samson Kim and Pastor Rev. Jun Macahig coordinated this program for Davao City and Mindanao’s Indigenous People. The General Secretary of KAGI, Mr. Sim Jael Yool teaches Korean Alphabet for the delegates of the six ethnic tribes.

Indonesian Tribe Adopts Hangul Alphabet

A minority population in Indonesia officially adopted Hangul, the Korean written alphabet, to transcribe their spoken language of Cia-Cia. It is the first time that foreigners have adopted Hangul as their official writing system.
According to the Hunminjeongeum Research Institute, the Cia-Cia live in Bau-Bau, the main city on Buton Island located in the Sulawesi province of Indonesia. The city began distributing textbooks written in Hangul on July 22 to 400 elementary students in the Sorawolio district where many Cia-Cia people live.
The 60 thousand member Cia-Cia tribe has been on the verge of a crisis regarding the disappearance of their language. They do not have a writing system to complement their spoken language. Members of the Hunminjeongeum Research Institute persuaded them to adopt Hangul, and established a memorandum of understanding with city officials to use Hangul on July 2008.
The Hunminjeongeum Research Institute invited two persons from the Cia-Cia tribe to Seoul to create a textbook written in Hangul. The textbook includes traditional Cia-Cia and Korean stories.
The Hunminjeongeum Research Institute and Bau-Bau City will build a Hangul Culture Center and plan to train teachers in Hangul. Kim Ju-won, the president of the Hunminjeongeum Research Institute, says “It is significant that Hangul can be used to prevent a minority language from disappearing.”

mas mayaman ang kultura nating mga pilipino kesa sa kultura nila.. ilang bayani ang nagbuwis ng buhay para sa ating kalayaan.
dahil ang tingin sa atin ng mga banyaga alipin, tapos i-aadopt pa natin ang kultura at wika nila eh di parang nagpa-alipin na naman ulit tayo sa kanila?
tama na ung tayong mga nagnanais na makapagtrabaho sa bansa nila ang mag-aaral ng kanilang wika at kultura, tayo ngang mga may edad na nahirapan sa wika nila paano pa kaya ang mga bata di ba?

Tama po kayo..nakita nyo na ba ang baybayin letterscript ,alibata at script ng mga katutubong mangyan??? maganda di po ba?? magmaganda kaysa sa hangeul. sana kumilos ang ating gobyerno sa agresibong gawain ng mga koreano. paano mo mapapanatili ang lingguahe at kultura ng mga katutubo kung panghihimasukan ito ng ibang lahi. ang tribo sa indonesia.. ginagamit na ang alpabetong hangeul..dahil sa kanilang kamangmangan..sana hindi ang kamangmangan ang maging dahilan ng pagbago ng kultura ng ating mga katutubo..
