Dear All,

I urge you to watch Bahaghari for four reasons. Firstly, this is a rare chance to see Filipino culture through traditional song, dance and theatrical pageant rendered by professional performers. Secondly, both groups are critically acclaimed in the Philippines and have performed numerous times locally and abroad. Thirdly, it is educational. If, as a Filipino, you want to tell your Korean employers and foreign friends about the richness of Filipino culture and art, you yourself must first know about it. Fourth, it's FREE, considering tickets for the performance normally range from 20,000 to 100,000 won.

01 October 2009, Thursday, has reserved
primarily for the FilCom and other guests. If you and your guests (invite as
many) are coming, please confirm your attendance through email: seoulpe@philembassy-seoul.com (subject: Rainbow) or call (02)796-0826 and look for Cultural Officer Mylo Fausto.

To get to the National Theater of Korea (국립극장), take the Subway Line 3 (Orange Line) and get off at Dongguk Univ. Station (동대입구역), exit 6. Take the yellow Namsan Circulation Bus (No. 02) from there and you should be seeing the venue at the next stop. Here is a map (click for link).

Bahaghari or Rainbow, in English, (click for details in Korean) is a folkloric and neo-ethnic pageant featuring the renowned Ramon Obusan Folkloric Group and the Sanghiyas Pangkat Mananayaw. It is a two-hour song, dance and theatrical pageant about the rituals and practices of the various Philippine tribes that celebrate man’s connection to Nature. Bahaghari features three suites; the Luzon Suite, which marks the eternal cycle of planting and harvest, birth, death and rebirth; the Visayan Suite, which salutes the victory of the valiant warrior in “Labaw Donggon”, a dance drama by Agnes Locsin with music by Joey Ayala based on F. Landa Jocano’s “Labaw Donggon” with additional notes by Dr. Alicia Magos; and the Fiesta Suite, which celebrates love and courtship through vibrant and festive dances. Bahaghari represents the Philippines in the World Theater Festival of National Theaters. It also marks the 60th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the Philippines and Korea.

As of this writing, We have receive some
confirmations from the FilCom, a few of them with Korean friends. We will be
glad to receive more.

Itaguyod natin ang sining at kulturang Filipino!
