New Pact Promises Jobs in Korea for 24,000 Filipinos.
MANILA, Philippines - Some 8,000 Filipinos may be hired in South Korea every year for the next three years following the signing of a memorandum of understanding in Seoul Saturday night.
A Malacañang statement Sunday said the MOU on employment permit system (EPS) was signed at the Blue House during President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo’s official visit to Korea.
Signing the MOU were Philippine Labor Secretary Marianito Roque and Korean Labor Minister Lee Young-Hee.
Witnessing the signing were Mrs. Arroyo and South Korean President Lee Myung-Bak. The signing of the MOU was on the sidelines of their bilateral meeting held earlier.
Roque said the MOU reflects the high regard of the Korean government for Filipino workers.
He said that originally, the contract tenure was for only two years, but this was extended to three years due to the strong and positive feedbacks Seoul was getting on Filipino workers.
Under the MOU, Roque said, Filipinos will be hired in the manufacturing industry and other business sectors in South Korea.

Wag muna tayo magsaya mga kabayan. alamin muna natin yung content nung MOU kung talagang pabor ito sa mga EPS worker at sa mga susunod pang batch ng EPS. Salamat po.
