Panawagan sa mga kababayan natin na may ginintuang puso at medyo nakakaluwag sa buhay.
Ito po ay isang napakagandang proyekto para matulungan ang mga "PAG-ASA NG ATING BAYAN".

We are holding a huge fundraising blowout on Saturday, June 13 starting at 8PM!
Save the date! You definitely won’t want to miss out.
It will be held at Ice Bar, Lisa’s bar in Gangnam, which is where our afternoon wine and cheese fundraiser was held.

Due to generous contributions from friends as well as local and international companies, we are pleased to have amazing musical guests, an incredible silent auction that you won’t want to miss out on, and a great raffle drawing where you could be the lucky winner of many great prizes!

There will be a cover charge of 10,000 won at the door, but with that cover charge you will get a free glass of homemade Sangria and a free raffle ticket.

100% of the cover charge, as well as 100% of the money raised from the auction and raffle ticket sales, will go directly to outfitting a computer lab at the school so that the children can learn much needed computer skills, as well as to offer scholarships to the children who need it most.

We will also invite attendees to sponsor individual scholarships - especially for the children in squatter areas, who have never even considered going to school before due to lack of funds.

So come out and have some fun, and help out kids in the Philippines get the education they deserve.

Stay tuned for an updated list of the auction and raffle prize items!

1st FUNDRAISER EVENT
Thank you so much for coming out to the fundraiser and supporting the children at SJC Colleges.

With your support, over 2,600,000 won was raised! Wow! That’s enough to provide 20 full-year scholarships! Your generosity will send at least 20 children to school starting June 8, 2009!

Not only was money raised, but people also donated books and school supplies. It’s truly marvelous being a part of such a generous and compassionate community.

Just a reminder that 100% of the money and materials you donated will go directly to the students. Not a single penny will be used for administrative or other costs. The bottom line is that these children are guaranteed a worry-free education this coming school year. They don’t have to worry about coming up with the funds to pay for tuition or transportation. Thanks to you, they can just concentrate on getting a good education and improving their future.

THANK YOU SO MUCH!

Expats hold fundraiser for school

Thanks to a fundraiser on Sunday in Gangnam, nearly 20 children in the Philippines will receive the gift of an education.

The event, held at Ice Bar, was organized by Nancy Kim and Lisa Kelley. Some 35 people gave a total of 2.4 million won in donations.

"This means that 18 children are able to receive full-year scholarships this coming school year which starts in June," Kim said.

The informal get-together provided information about the needs of the students. Organizers provided free food and non-alcoholic punch.

Organizers said the weekend event was a prelude to a larger event planned for June 13* at the same venue. They hope to have live music next time.

The donations were for students attending San Jose Christian Colleges*, located about three-and-a-half hours north of Manila. Founded in 1947, the private institute has about 800 students who range in level from primary to post-graduate. The school is run by Kim's father, Chi Choo Kim*, and has a monthly tuition of $13.

"The ones who are in need, are really in need," she said. "Many of them come from farming families. It's a minimal amount, but it really means a lot in the Philippines."

The idea for the fundraiser came to her when she recently came back from visiting her father's school and talked about it with Kelley. Kim remembered how many students found it difficult to pay their tuition. Kim and Kelley realized that expats in Seoul might be interested in helping these needy students, and the fundraiser idea was born.

"It's been pretty amazing how many people have jumped on the bandwagon," Kim said.

With Kelley's encouragement, Kim returned to the school and gathered additional information in preparation for the event. Kelley, who owns Ice Bar, provided the venue and the women purchased the supplies themselves so all the proceeds from the fundraiser would go directly to the children.

Participants were encouraged to bring school supplies as well as donate money.

Kim said that those who donated money were given the opportunity to provide a scholarship to an individual child.

Kelley said she and Kim took care to provide enough information to ease any fears potential donators might have about where the money is going.

Emily Fleischmann of Canada was among those who attended the event.

"I am passionate about education and feel it is so unbelievably important that all children have an opportunity to go to school," Fleischmann said. "Teachers have such an impact on the lives of their students. I'm glad to be able to provide a child with the opportunity to meet someone who will forever influence the course of their future."
