The movie Crossing was inspired by the North Korean Defactor Jang Gil Su great escape in North Korea.

Prized Artists, Actors and Poets Get Together in Historical Indie Barako

Barako is a thought-provoking, relevant commentary of our times that premiered in last year’s Cinemalaya at the Cultural Center of the Philippines . Barako at Crossing sa Pelikulang Indie BarakoIt will have its first commercial run in Robinsons Galleria’s IndieSine (Cinema Cool from July 9-15.

First-time director Manolito C. Sulit, poet and author from Ibaan, Batangas, has taken a slice of his hometown's history and created a story about how a young man galvanizes his town mates into actively participating in their community's economic and political growth, painting an evolved picture of Philippine democracy as the narrative recalled Filipino losses in the Philippine-American war. Emman Pascual co-directed the movie and was also its director of photography.

Arnold Reyes plays the lead role as the Publisista, supported by Carlon Matobato, Leo Martinez and Dennis Marasigan, co-starring theater legend Nanding Josef and poets Raul Funilas, Mike Coroza and Vim Nadera, among others.

National Artist for Literature Bienvenido Lumbera, veteran director and actor Behn Cervantes and Archie Adamos also played special roles in the movie.

Rhod Nuncio wrote, "Manolito Sulit, the Filipino poet cum director and scriptwriter of this film envisions a criss-crossing of time, genre, form, and narrative to bring out a contemporary reading of local/national Filipino life." Lumbera commented it completely tackles Philippine politics, while fictionist/screenwriter Fanny Garcia said it is a movie that has so much to say about our society.

Barako also has the support of the National Commission for Culture and the Arts. Check out the film's website at http://barakothemovie.com

If you loved indie movie or documentary film's like me hehheh, i'd recommend you to watch chiburro (homecoming / Coming Home- dont know the exact translation hahaha) One of Fr. Tears of the Sun na isang movie about a great escape, and syempre ang 1995 Chito Rono films and pinoy documentray na Eskapo (Gene Lopez and Serge Osmena story )... puro escape na tayo nito heheheh... And pagka-escape i'd like to recommend naman ang Che Guvarra's-Motorcycle Diaries na tumatalakay sa isang kabataang naglalayag para hanapin ang intensyon ng tao at ng mundo para sa kanya and his mundane and heavenly slogan "Let the world change you, so can change the world" ...

Happy viewing pare...
