NPS will Start Foreigner Refund Service at Airport

It will be easier for foreigners working in South Korea to be paid for a lump-sum refund from the National Pension Service (NPS).




The NPS announced that it will launch a refund service that allows foreign subscribers to get a lump-sum refund immediately at the Incheon International Airport from July 5 2010. Under the current pension scheme, foreigners need to wait for about a week to get back their money.

Those who have applied for a refund will be able to be confirmed at the NPS’s Incheon Airport Office and received the refund at Shinhan Bank’s Incheon Airport branch. If they possess more than $ 10,000 in cash, they must declare at the customs office. What does not change is that even under the new system, they still have to visit any NPS regional offices with airplane tickets verifying their departure date within one month to apply for the refund.

Those who are covered by the NPS while working in South Korea can mostly have their money back when they return to their own country. The NPS says the total claims for the refund registered 19,300 and the total amount of refunds made for foreign subscribers have reached 440 billion won ($ 359 million) as of now. Eligible applicants for the refund will be those from the countries that have contracts with the NPS. Currently, 49 countries have contracted with the NPS to provide their nationals insurance while working in South Korea. The NPS said, “Few foreigners from countries other than the 49 countries subscribe to the pension scheme.”

As of late April, 166,835 foreigners have subscribed to the national pension scheme in total. Among them, 62,506 are Chinese, 19,990 are Filipinos and 18,585 are Thais.

hindi nmn siguro nila gagawin yan..considering sa mga maaaring mangyari na maabuso ng mga foreign nationals..na mag tnt after makuha ang kanilang kukmin..cguro me mga procedure sila para di maaboso ang kanilang programa..

just hoping na this is true..pauwi na kc ako 1st quarter this yr, paano ang process nito?...so mag a apply pa rin ako sa NPS dito malapit sa amin 1mo. bago ang alis ko, then sa araw na ng alis ko na makukuha sa Shinhan bank sa Incheon ang lumpsum ko - in cash?, kc 1 requirements ng NPS for lumpsum is bank account sa pinas or EZ one account ng KEB w/c is sa pinas mo rin makukuha..ask ko lang kung bakit kailangan pa nating e submit this requirement if pwede na nating makuha dito?...hope someone will clearly verify/clarify this matter.
