Read DOLE clarifies: OFW deployment to South Korea delayed only, not ban (Video)

The Philippine government now bans overseas Filipino workers (OFW) deployment to South Korea due to the tension between the two Korean governments, according to local news sites on Saturday.

Reports said Deputy Presidential Spokesperson Abigail Valte has announced in a series of radio interviews that the decision to ban of OFWs bound for South Korea came after when North Korea made a surprise attack on the soil of South Korea lately.

“It was decided by different government agencies like the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) and the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE), to protect its Filipino workers,” Valte was quoted as saying.

Valte added that there are about 46,000 Filipinos in the Korean peninsula, including undocumented workers, and an assessment is now going on to know their condition, as being instructed to them by President Benigno ‘Noynoy’ Aquino III.

Meanwhile, Foreign Affairs Undersecretary Esteban Conejos Jr said that about 1,000 Filipino workers are now supposedly scheduled leave for Korea until December.[u]
