Rules on Work Status Reporting Eased for Migrants

Foreign workers here will be allowed to report any changes in their work status through faxes without having to visit immigration authorities, the Ministry of Justice said Wednesday. The changes include new employment, retirement, and change of workplace.
So far, Korean firms hiring foreign workers have been required to visit an immigration office for reporting within 15 days after a change in job status takes place.
``It will help companies save time and money and eventually contribute to boosting their competitiveness,’’ the ministry said. ``We also expect this relaxation of rules to ease administrative work.’’ The fax number is 1577-1346 for use across the nation. For more information, visit www.immigration.go.kr or www.hikorea.go.kr, or contact 1345 for multilingual counseling services for free.
